Chapter 13

David… another blast from the past.

I needed to breathe. I could see myself beginning to lose it a little. See what some good dick did to you? I had to joke about this. I needed a drink. Where was the wine? Shit, I needed something stronger. Where was the cognac? That shit was too strong. Forget being mad, angry, and upset. Fuck this. I was going shopping because I did my best recovering when I went shopping. It was still nice outside. I could go to Georgetown and that would help lift my spirits.

I grabbed my purse, cell phone, and keys off the coffee table, slipped on my loafers, and headed out the door. While driving, I popped in my Michel’le N'degeocello CD, opened my sunroof, and let all negative energy fly out the window. The only thing on my mind was shopping. Look out bank account. You're going to be hit hard. Ben & Jerry's beware, too.

After browsing through a couple of stores and buying five outfits along with the shoes, purses, and belts to match. I started to feel trapped. I headed down to the waterfront at Washington Harbor. I sat on the bench, gazed out at the water, watched the passing boats, and began to catch my breath again.

Everyone looked like they were having the time of their life, and all I could do was repeat over and over in my head that I felt cheated. Why? Why did he lie? Why couldn't he just have been honest with me? If he was involved with someone, why didn't he just tell me? Things wouldn't have gone this far. I felt a tear fall from my eye and, as I began to wipe my cheek, I felt a hand touch me on my shoulder.

"Excuse me, Miss? Is your name Jasmine? Jasmine, is that you? Say it isn't so!" a voice said.

I turned my head around and prayed to God that it was not someone I really didn't care to see.

"Girl, how long has it been?" the person said.

"Oh my goodness, look what the sun has brought out! David, how have you been?” I greeted as I stood to give him a big hug. “You look great!"

"So do you, Jasmine. You've aged like a fine wine – gracefully smooth and yet a sweet treat," David complimented. Meanwhile, he was eying me up and down like a juicy steak on the grill.

I chuckled. "David, you have not changed one bit. You are still the same old smooth talker since school. Maybe now with some new pick-up lines, huh?" I joked. We both laughed.

“Hey, did you and that guy that you were seeing...What was his name? Steve, yeah him... ever get married? I remember he was head over heels for you. He used to talk my head off in class about Jasmine. Jasmine this, Jasmine that," he questioned.

"Nope, we didn't get married, but I actually bumped into him a few weeks ago," I told him.

"How's he doing?" David asked.

"Good I suppose.
